What if I cross the street on a red light? What if i throw myself from the stairs? What would it feel like to have a cactus in your nose? What would happen if I stab my mother?, you might be thinking you've finally went insane as you're having thoughts that are not considered as 'normal'. Most of the time, you'd sit back and think about every intrusive thought you've had and why you had it.
Don't think about the reason, just move on
One of the reasons why most people with such thoughts fall into depression is that they try to search for the reason as to why they keep having such thoughts and think of themselves as 'abnormal', when in reality, everybody experiences weird enough scenarios in their mind but they don't meet the same fate as you, why?
They don't dwell on it.
Drill it into your brain that you cannot control your thoughts, if someone tells you to not think of an elephant you'd automatically end up thinking of an elephant. When you push your thoughts away, they keep coming back which results in an endless loop of them. The safest way is to just accept the thought and move further on.
If you indulge too much into your mind and try to carve out rationality from every thought you have, You'll go insane.
Am I really like this?
If you feel guilty about feeling this way, then that suggests that you wouldn't probably act out on those thoughts, you know they are wrong and you acknowledge that, which is why you suffer. Realize, that it doesn't matter how successful or unproblematic person you could be, everyone has had intrusive ideas in their mind more than once.
As a person, that has just recently starting controlling their intrusive thoughts, I can ensure you that you can have the most violent, disgusting and vile thought ever. It might make you want to not communicate with others anymore and just fall into loneliness but you should not lose sight of yourself as a person. Know that you are not what your inner voice defines you to be like, comprehend the difference between a thought and reality.
Yes, they are normal, but do NOT act upon them
Intrusive thoughts are mostly harmless unless you'd really end up pursuing them. You might have a sudden thought of throwing a child in front of heavy traffic, throw a ball into your neighbor's window or any unwanted stimulating desire, you'd feel bad about it and think of yourself as a hypocrite. These are unwanted, contradictory thoughts, they are supposed to be hypocritical. Leave them be but do not think that they are a part of your personality or what you believe in. They are rather simple. They are not you unless you perform them.
